Port of Jurong

The Port of Jurong wished to become a significant container terminal operator by making use of the facilities it already had. This required a realignment of all the current activities so that the new trades could be handled. The container terminal was to be designed to handle up to 4 million TEUs per year in a restricted area which required a considerable input to existing activities and input to increase port productivity.

Hong Kong

A report was prepared on planning and operations for alternative development layouts for Container Terminal 10, which would become Hong Kong's largest terminal. Later a separate report was prepared on the capacity of all the existing deepwater container terminals at Kwai Tsing.

Ukraine

A feasibility study was undertaken for a new container terminal at Illychivsk Port (now Chornomorsk), Ukraine, including detailed layouts, operations, handling equipment and estimated of capital and operating cost. A separate study was prepapred for the phased deepending of the approach channel and harbour at Yuzhny Port to accept capesize bulk carriers.

Tanzania

Advice was provided on planning for a new multi-purpose port at Mwambani Bay - a green field location to replace the northern Tanzanian port of Tanga.

Hamad Port, Qatar

Specialist advice was provided to Scott Wilson, as consultants to the Government of Qatar, on the operations, facilities and handling equipment required for each of the cargo terminals that would be required for the proposed New Doha Port, a very large multi-purpose port to be built on a green field site south of the capital city. The terminals comprised facilities for containers, vehicles, grain, break bulk, livestock and offshore support operations, supported by general port infrastructure.

Marine inputs to the Master Plan included the relocation of the current port to its new location south of Doha.  Input was provided for channel design options, recommendations for navigational aids and proposal for a traffic management strategy to merge vessel movements from the new Hamad Port, Mesaieed and Doha.

The operations at the existing Doha Port were also reviewed and short term improvements were recommended to enable the port to handle the forecast traffic until the new port is opened. Recommendations included improved management and training, additional container handling equipment, and various expansion schemes to cope with the additional volumes of containers and vehicles.

Ust Luga Port, Russia

Specialist advice was provided to Scott Wilson as part of a Technical Review for investors of the proposed new container terminal at the major new port that was under construction in Luga Bay, near the border with Estonia. The proposed facilities, operations, handling equipment and manning levels were considered. Recommendations included modifications to the layout and handling equipment in order to improve efficiency and safety, and adjusting the phasing to reduce investment in the initial stage.
