PORT CONSULTANTS
Allan Duncan has over 30 years experience in the ports, transport and shipping industries and has specialised in port management and cargo handling operations. After a period at sea when he qualified as Master Mariner, he held senior executive positions in a range of major port facilities, including general cargo, RoRo, container and bulk facilities. He formed his own Port Management Consultancy firm in 1997 and has since carried out a considerable number of assignments for governments, consulting engineers and local authorities in a wide range of countries. These undertakings have included port master plans, terminal operations, labour relations and equipment identification along with related labour training requirements. Projects have included major long term contracts such as the identification of expansion potential for the Port of New York and New Jersey and a similar lengthy programme to introduce new operating procedures into the major Indian container port of Jawaharlal Nehru Container Terminal near Mumbai. Short term projects have included local investigation into airborne dust pollution problems in a small port in the UK, and cargo handling requirements for the remote Island of St Helena together with a number of major port master plans. He has the management experience and the organisational skills required to undertake effective port planning and development, together with wide knowledge of the various operating practices relevant to both major and secondary port management and operations.
