PORT CONSULTANTS
Simon Thomas has over 35 years’ professional experience in planning, design and procurement of harbours, ports, shipyards and naval facilities internationally. His main experience is in marine terminals for containers and bulk cargoes, as well as river ports, navigation channels and landside connections. He has been responsible for the management and execution of major development projects, from inception to implementation, chiefly using FIDIC-based contracts. Recent work has centred on strategic planning, feasibility studies, master planning and BOT concessions; audits of existing terminals and operations; and due diligence advice on investment proposals.
Simon has advised IFIs and commercial banks on a wide range of port developments, and has worked on projects in over 50 countries in Europe, Africa, Asia and the Americas, including several mega projects. Having collaborated with government departments, port authorities, global operators, contractors and international funders in advanced and developing countries, and having led and worked in multi-discipline and multi-cultural teams (including in Spanish), he is able to deliver projects in a wide range of situations. Simon is a member of PIANC Working Group 135: design principles for container terminals in small and medium sized ports. |
